23 Sep 2012 - Robins (A)

Robins 4 - 1 Wootton Bassett Blue We turned up in the rain and started slowly, looking a bit lethargic. Maybe it was the weather but it was not a performance that we have been used to in the previous three games. We had the slope in the first half but could not use it to our advantage. We looked a bit dis-jointed, not passing and a few heavy touches. Robins were defending strongly and put some good passing moves together making us chase around for a lot of the first half. A neat passing move involving 4 of the Robins players ended with a smart pass and finish and we were 1-0 down early on. We were struggling to find any form, Jack and Marshall not getting any change from their usual mazy runs and Nat was having no luck with his shooting this week. Robins took advantage again after a good run the striker hit a shot against Adams leg and the ball bounced out to the oncoming midfielder who did well to hit an powerful shot into the bottom corner giving Josh no chance to make it 2-0. Half time and 2-0 down. The second half started better as we looked for a way back. But Robins were looking dangerous again and they won a corner which we defended well with a couple of headers from Oliver, who then passed out wide to Jack Holder. Jack went on a run beating three players then crossed the ball which Nat narrowly missed, but Marshall who had ran the whole length of the pitch got on the end of it and smashed it into the roof of the net to make it 2-1. We had our tails up now and started pressing harder and were getting more of the ball. We had a couple of chances, Adam shot wide from long range and Nat and Marshall both hit the cross bar with good efforts. But we gave the ball away and Robins broke and within a couple of passes were at the edge of the box and another nice finish gave Josh no chance and they had scored to put the score at 3-1. There was still time but we could not get the breakthrough. As we pushed forward with no luck, Robins kept hitting us on the break but JT, Oliver and guest player Howard were intercepting the ball repeatedly to thwart them and keep us in it. The final goal came again on the break with some clever passing Robins reached the edge of the box and with another good strike made it 4-1 and it was game over. First dropped points of the season but we were beaten by the better team today.
