17 Nov 2012 - Greenmeadow Youth (A)

Today was a huge game for us in the cup against the side unbeaten and top of the league so we knew it was going to be a tough ask.

We started a bit slowly and were giving possession away too easily relying on some long balls hoping to free Nat. Most of the first half we defended and hit Greemeadow on the break. They were passing the ball to each other and moving forward dangerously but the amount of time in and around our box did not get them a decent chance apart from a few mad scrambles in our box as we were defended stoutly and cut out all of their killer balls and crosses.

In the second half we were more into the game and we were looking dangerous as we attacked with pace but a few times the final ball was either snuffed out or under hit and we struggled to work their keeper.

But we did get a chance when Jack Holder played the ball inside and Nat once again showed great desire to get a touch and freed himself to go on a run towards goal. In space he took a shot which the keeper saved but could not hold and as Nat followed up the ball fell nicely to him to smash into the corner with the keeper still stranded on the floor and the Bassett side of the crowd went nuts!!

For the remaining 10 - 15 minutes Greenmeadow pushed on looking for an equaliser but we defended strongly as a team and backed each other up really well and when we won possession we hit them on the break in numbers and with a little more luck may have created another chance to finish the game off but we just couldn't find the decisive pass.

Nobody stood out today as it was a super team performance, everyone played really well and worked extremely hard for each other.

Josh in goal was excellent, made one fantastic save near the end when he came out to smother the ball when facing what looked like an equaliser.

Jamie played in defence and wide midfield today, his touch and tackling were top drawer as usual and he read the play brilliantly to be in the right place at the right time.

Oiver was a massive influence at the back, won his headers and tackles like we have come to expect and played with great confidence and composure.

JT again was huge in defence, got stuck in and broke up the play on numerous occasions to set us away into attack

Jack Holder was his usual energetic self, worked really hard especially when on our side of the pitch to stop the play.

Adam was a tower of strength, he didn't lose a single tackle today and supported the play forward and back.

Marshall worked tirelessly up and down the right side and kept one of the best players in the league quiet all game.

Nathaniel was like a rampaging bull, chased every ball and used his strength and skill to keep possession every time he could.
