11 Nov 2012 - Shrivenham and Watchfield (H)

Before the game we did a minutes silence that was impeccably observed so well done to all the players, coaches and families.

We started the game positively and within a minute had a half chance that Shrivenham nervously cleared. But the next attack was decisive as Nat used his pace and strength to win the ball and beat the last defender then bit the back of the net with a decisive finish.

Another minute later and Nat had another with a similar break again he used his power to beat two defenders and find the bottom corner. We then settled, perhaps the early start gave us some confidence as we then tried to pass the ball about and keep possession. Shrivenham were battling to win the ball but Oliver and JT at the back were cleaning up and feeding Jack Holder and Marshall the ball with some nice touches.

Nat then got his hat-trick when the ball was cleared to Adam then on to Jack H. After a neat run, the ball in was not cleared properly and Nat was on hand to stroke ball into the far corner with a lovely finish. But he was not happy with a hat-trick and he scored again with another typical run and shot that the keeper could not keep out!

Just before half time we scored another when Marshall won the ball out wide and his cross was cleared out to Adam who had a couple of touches then curled a beauty into the top left corner.

The second half started similarly with us trying to keep possession and Shrivenham working hard but not causing too many threats although we did have a couple of nervous moments early in the half when we were pushing on too much and getting caught out of position. Oliver and Jamie kept calm in defence though and nullified the threats.

Nathaniel then scored another goal when Marshalls cut back into the box was perfect for Nat to simply guide the ball into the bottom corner and make it six.

Jamie was showing some lovely touches now as the lads were now confident keeping the ball and looking to find a killer pass or two. Oliver then scored a cracker from what seemed an impossible angle near the sideline, as he unleashed a powerful shot that flew across the goal and over the keeper just under the cross bar and almost break the net!!!

Nat then scored his sixth goal of the game with another one of his remarkable runs when he once again showed his determination to outpace and out-muscled the defence to get to the ball first and strike it home!

The game ended and the boys were overjoyed with an unexpected big win.
