24 Feb 2013 - Shrivenham and Watchfield (A)

On a cold morning we took our time to get going against a resolute Shrivenham team who battled hard and were determined not to give in.

The first half was a bit scrappy but we almost scored when Adam hit the post early on. We got caught in defense and the attacker was through on goal but Josh was off his line and managed to get a touch on the ball and make a fantastic save to put it well wide for a corner.

Jamie, Marshall and Jack were confident in running forward and were unlucky not to get a decisive ball through to Nat and we were all getting frustrated that none of the efforts were rewarded with any more chances! Oliver and JT were solid at the back and were clearing up the Shrivenham threats.

The second half was similar with both teams working hard against each other. Nat had a chance when from a long ball by Oliver he headed the ball over the last defender and was in on goal but the keeper rushed out to save at his feet. Jack and Marshall started seeing more of the ball as the game went on, maybe Shrivenham were tiring as we were breaking quickly and were unlucky not to get any decent chances as the ball just seemed to run away as a pass or cross were about to come!

Jamie was thriving in midfield today but he went down heavily in a challenge and hurt himself, hopefully he will be OK so best wishes to him.

Adam had a rocket shot from the edge of the box which the keeper got fingers to and onto the cross bar! Just as he thought it was not his day, we got the breakthrough when Adam beat his man on the edge of the area and from a wide angle he rifled the ball into the top corner!

We nearly made it 2-0 when a Marshall corner was met by Nat at the back post but his header went over the bar.

From the on we defended well but did almost concede in the last minute when we got caught again at the back and were under pressure in the box but JT got a vital touch to Oliver who cleared the ball away from danger.
