02 Feb 2013 - Ferndale Rodbourne 'A' (H)

This was another tight, hard fought game but we managed to scrape through into the semi finals after extra time.

We started confidently and tried to play some football moving the ball as best we could, Nat and Marshall working hard going forward and Adam and Jack Holder working together on the left to get some balls into the box but with no reward,

Oliver and Jamie were as always perfectly placed to steal the ball when under pressure and stop any attacks in the first half.

The Ferndale keeper made a great save to deny Adam who met Jack Holders corner first time and he pushed the ball around the post with a full stretch dive. But we did take the lead after 10 minutes when a loose ball in the box fell to Nat who typically pounced to poke it home.

The second half was different as Ferndale came out fighting and were on top for long periods but Josh, Jamie, JT and Oliver were worked hard to stop all their attacks. One good run by their winger almost got them a goal when he ran the whole length of the pitch beating 4 attempted tackles but his shot went wide. We gave away the lead when the same player picked up a ball in the box, had a nice touch then fired the ball low into the corner.

The remainder of the second half was tight but we did have a couple of half chances as Marshall had a shot over the bar and we had a few corners that kept pressure on Ferndale.

Extra time started and we scored what turned out to be the winner early on when another ball into the box fell kindly to Nat who had a nice touch and finished well with the outside of his foot.

The remaining few minutes were tense as Ferndale broke in numbers and we had to concentrate hard especially when they had 4 corners in succession but Josh and JT cleared the ball each time stopping and chances and as the whistle blew the boys were overjoyed!
