09 Dec 2012 - Croft Juniors Red (A)

The second week running we faced Croft who beat us last week so the boys were told to stay sharp and compete even harder than last week! It was a similar game to last week with a battle up and down the pitch with both sides again determined not to give anything away.

But we got off to a good start and tried to play some decent football, the 3G surface seemed to help us as we looked comfortable with the ball from the start. JT worked hard up front today and put their defence under pressure every time we lost the ball and made them clear hastily on several occasions giving us possession in their half. From one of the throw ins we took the lead when Oliver surprised Croft and threw the ball square to an unmarked Adam who had time to take a touch and volley the ball from 30 yards over the keeper and into the net!

We had a half chance to make it two but the shot from Jack (I think) was just wide after some nice work from Marshall and JT.

Croft then came into the game and had us on the back foot but Jamie and Ollie were both magnificent again today keeping them out with some well timed interceptions and a couple of perfectly timed tackles. Also, Josh in goal was always on his toes, coming off his line to collect the attempted through balls.

The second half seemed a long one as Croft took control of the game and were pushing forward every time they had the ball. We were working really hard but tiring quickly and every time Jack and Marshall tried to attack they had little support and were thwarted by the now confident Croft midfield and defence.

We managed to deny Croft any clear chances but with only a couple of minutes to go they finally created a chance which they really did deserve. Credit to them as it was a lovely passing move across the pitch and the finish was also excellent. Josh came out well to narrow the angle but the attacker lifted the ball over him into the net.

The last minute was tense but we held on for a point so well done!
