Rylands Way, 26th November 2011
Hopes of cup success for Wootton Bassett Town this season were extinguished as Headington Amateurs eliminated Dave Turner's side from the Hellenic League Challenge Cup, securing a narrow 1-0 victory at Rylands Way.
The visitors scored the only goal of the match through Liam Morbey eight minutes after the restart to book their place in the quarter finals of the competition.
Whereas Bassett sauntered to victory against the reigning Hellenic League Division One West champions a months ago, this encounter between the two sides was a much tight affair; that was to be expected given the visitors had available the vast majority of those missing from the league fixture. However, the hosts will be disappointed not to have found the back of the net, a fact which means their unbeaten run ends at five matches.
All attention will now be fully concentrated on the campaign to get out of Division One West, beginning with the trip to local rivals Cricklade Town next Saturday.
