Amesbury avenge earlier defeat

Wow what a day; wind, hail, sleet, rain, sun and playing on a pitch that looked more like a wall challenge at the link (well maybe not that steep!!) For the second week, the score line does not portray the way the boys played.

In the first half Wootton Bassett were unlucky not to score in the first ten minutes whilst at the back they kept Amesbury at bay. Shots were blocked, saved, pushed just wide or hit the side netting but Amesbury were victors at the end of half time with 2 goals to their credit.

There must have been a good team talk at half time because Bassett came out a different side and although they were pushing uphill, definitely had the better half. Jordan Daley in particular battled and tackled like a true Lion to combat an Amesbury player, who was nearly twice the size of him, and played midfield along side Swann, Tasker and Passingham. George Bartlett kept the back line of Bartlett, Paish, Little and Tyrie running tirelessly supporting an ever hard working Wakefield whose acrobatic saves stopped the scoreline being even larger. The whole team played together and surged forward on many occasions but the two forwards, Plaistow and Mooney, were unable to capitalise on any openings and Amesbury took advantage of this and caught us on the break and scored 3 more goals.

Well done boys - it was great to see some good tactical football being played, even though the score wasn't what we needed.
