Bassett inflict first defeat on Amesbury in five years

Playing a team unbeaten in 5 years, Bassett were well up for this one from the off and at last fully displayed their potential with a superb all round display. In the first 15, it was end to end action with Tyrie, Bartlett and Paish, making his debut, showing some impressive defensive qualities with midfield showing good skill on the ball which led to a great through ball by Stewart to Passingham, who ran almost half the pitch, to bury the ball in the back of the net, 1-0 Bassett! Shortly after hard work and good skill on the ball by Evans resulted in Bassett taking a 2-0 lead with a good finish by this player. Little, playing in goal due to goalkeeping injuries/unavailability was having an absolute superb game between the posts, with some good saves. H/T 2-0

The 2nd half began similar to the 1st with end-to-end action, with good interplay between Mooney and Swann resulted in Bassett's third from Swann, 3-0 Bassett. Bassett continued to press, with some impressive work from Plaistow and in particular Tasker, who was having a superb afternoon giving the Amesbury defence trouble throughout. Plaistow replaced by Daley, who made an instant impact, with some good defensive qualities. The defensive trio of Tyrie, Bartlett and Paish, were still working extremely hard to keep an Amesbury attack at bay when unfortunately Bartlett got injured to be replaced by Southern. With 8 minutes to go Tyrie was replaced by Molloy, with the team still working hard, a good shot deceived Little with Amesbury getting what seemed to be a consolation, 3-1. From the kick off Amesbury, with renewed vigour were looking extremely dangerous and with the clock ticking a second goal was scored, 3-2. Bassett held out for the final 4 minutes, with good interplay between Tasker and Southern keeping the ball in their half and at full time it remained 3-2 to Bassett. If this form is kept up there is no reason why a top 3 finish cannot be achieved and it was a great display from the whole team who put 100% into every move and thought, (Including all 3 subs, who played there part.) Well-done guys keep it up!!!!!!!!!!!!!
