Good start to the New Year

Bassett started brightly with a good move between Passingham and Stewart, ended with Evans hitting the post. Purton replied to this with a break away attack and poor defending gave them a 1-0 lead. Bassett came back with Passingham passing to Plaistow, who had a well-saved shot, but the rebound fell to Mooney and Bassett equalised, 1-1. An attack led by Purton ended with returning goalkeeper Wakefield making a superb save. A good break from Bassett, allowed Passingham to have a shot saved from the keeper, the cleared ball fell to Stewart, who put it into the top right, to make to 2-1 Bassett. Bassett went on the attack and were awarded a penalty, after Mooney was fouled, Plaistow stepped up and the shot was saved, but Stewart followed up the rebound to get his second and Bassett's third. Next came the Joel Swann show, with Bassett attacking and good movement being played, this allowed Swann to make it 4-1 to Bassett. A minute later however it was 5-1 with Swann getting his 2nd of the game to make it 5-1. Purton came on the attack and good defending from Little kept Purton from replying. Bassett played about with it for the remaining minutes of the half, but a final attack from Bassett, ended in Swann getting his hat trick and making it 6-1 at half time.

The second half began, and Bassett continued to attack and started the second like they ended the first, Swann getting his 4th making it 7-1 to Bassett. Good work in midfield between Passingham, Evans and Embling put pressure on the Purton defence and ended with a shot being saved. Southern replaced Embling and Daley replaced Little. Two minutes later Bassett made it 8-1 and Swann scored his 5th of the game. A surprise for keeper Wakefield, who gathered a cross, got his 1st touch of the half 20 minutes in! Tyrie replaced Plaistow. Mooney passed to Tyrie, who then fed a great ball to Swann who scored to make it 9-1 and get his sixth of the game. At full time it was 9-1, a great start to the new year guys, keep it up!
