Bassett end calendar year with a defeat

After winning this fixture away 6-1, Bassett looked to overcome last weekend's disappointing 5-2 defeat to Old Town and got straight into it with the back 3 and midfield winning a lot of possession early on. Bassett forced numerous chances early on with Plaistow and Passingham going close, but some great keeping kept it at 0-0. With Bassett desperate to get a 1-0 lead Paish went close with another free kick to force a corner, in which Bassett went close again. Then just as everything was going to plan, disaster struck with Croft taking a 1-0 lead after the ball somehow found its way in. Southern replaced by Wakefield. H/T 0-1

After some words at half time from Daley Snr, Bassett came out fighting and Swann and Plaistow combined to have a good effort on goal. Then Bassett got what they deserved, a goal scored by Daley, after a shot was taken in by the wind, which seemed to deceive the keeper. Bassett forced everything forward but couldn't get that 2nd goal and a break away Croft attack earned them a penalty. The ball was placed on the spot and Croft scored to make it 2-1 after Embling did everything he could to keep it out. From here Bassett could not recover and even substitutes Molloy and Doherty, who replaced Tyrie and Little, tried everything they could to get a draw. At full time, another defeat for Bassett, this time losing again at home to Croft 2-1. Unlucky guys but the game against Purton early in the year will be a big test to see how you pick yourselves up from a bad end to the year! Come on lads a top 3 place is still capable with the team's abilities!!!!!
