Bassett lose despite a good start

Bassett started the game well, but it soon turned sour, when Shaw took the lead from a half-cleared corner and a shot lobbed keeper Wakefield. 1-0 then turned to 2-0 from the next attack, where a great save from Wakefield was followed up on the rebound to make it a simple tap in, 2-0 to Shaw. Bassett tried to get back into game quickly and were unlucky when a Mooney pass found Embling, who shot just wide. Southern came on to replace Mooney, who was suffering from a chest infection. Bassett were lucky not to go 3-0 down, when sloppy defending almost cost them dear. A 2nd change was forced halfway through the 1st half when Little injured his knee and was replaced by Tyrie. Just as it looked Bassett were getting into gear the half time whistle blew, making it Shaw 2-0 Bassett.

Bassett showed Great Spirit early in the 2nd half with a lot of possession and good movement. Bassett were nearly rewarded with their efforts as good play between Swann, Stewart and Tasker nearly got Bassett back into the game. Again, Bassett were almost made to pay and nearly went 3-0 down, if it wasn't for Chris Stewart's header off the line. Shaw again tried to lob Wakefield but the keeper took with ease. A number of good saves were made from Wakefield, who kept Bassett in with a chance of getting back into the game. The best it got from that point was a Plaistow cross-found Tasker who put it into the side netting. Shaw took the points, but a slow start cost them dear, at full time it was: Shaw 2-0 Bassett.
