Bassett unfortunate under the lights

The game was played on Friday under lights at Rylands Way and the boys really enjoyed playing on a large pitch. Bassett started well with a goal scored by James Tasker within the first 5 minutes and Lydiard then hit Bassett with a barrage of shots which were all unsuccessful due to the strong defence of George Bartlett, Nicholas Southern, Leigh Little and Alfie Passingham. Just before half time Lydiard broke through and at half time it was 1-1.

In the second half both teams were very even with shots either going wide or just over the bar. Eventually it was Lydiard who got the lucky break and made it 1-2. Bassett made three substitutes, one of them being keeper, Jamie Wakefield, who had started the game but was unwell but an agile replacement, Jordan Embling, kept Lydiard's shots at bay. Bassett were unlucky not to equalise through shots, goal mouth scrambles, corners and a half way line lob from defender Bartlett which just skimmed the cross bar.

The boys played good football with all their heart and were very unfortunate to come away without any points.
