Bassett started the game well, with what appeared to be an early breakthrough from Mooney was ruled out for offside. However, the next attack did bring a goal from Bassett and it was Mooney who got it, smashing home a volley from just outside the box. Some good play between the lads and a Tasker shot forcing the keeper to make a save. Fairford, with their first attack, scored when Bassett fell asleep at the back, this seemed to affect the whole team where their heads went down. Bassett tried to rally and a good strike from Evans gave the Fairford keeper a good test, but was saved with ease. At half time it was 1-1.
A lot of possession for Bassett early in the 2nd half, showed their intent to follow up on last weeks 6-1 win at Croft. Then, just as it looked like Bassett were in control Fairford struck to put them into a 2-1 lead, this forced a change with Tyrie coming on for Southern. A great save from Wakefield kept Bassett from going 3-1 down, after a Fairford player tried to lob him. Then disaster struck, a defensive mix up and no talking at the back, put Fairford 3-1 up. Little off, replaced by Molloy. A great ball across the box from Mooney put Stewart through, and a great save from the Fairford keeper stopped Bassett from getting back into it. This sparked a fight back and a great shot from Stewart got Bassett back into it, still 3-2 to Fairford. Bassett tried everything to go forward, but the wind played a huge part in the 2nd half which meant at full time it was Fairford who took the points, winning 3-2, Bassett will have to improve their communication to each other as there was very little talking to each other throughout the whole game, added to the windy conditions was a major contributor to their downfall.
