Bassett fall to a defeat again

Bassett started the game well with some good attacking play and were nearly rewarded early on, but a Tasker effort went wide. A good start was due to the fact of a lot of possession and this was well documented throughout the whole team, with a lot of effort going into each ball. Then, just as things were looking good, disaster struck when Fairford took the lead after a shot from outside the box crept beyond keeper Wakefield. Some good tackling by Tyrie enabled Bassett to have another shot go close, when Passingham crossed but a goalmouth scramble kept out a Bartlett attempt. Tyrie got a good head off the line which enabled Fairford to take a corner and when the ball came in, Wakefield was left stranded and a Fairford player was there to tap the ball home to make it 2-0. Wakefield then did well in saving numerous shots before the break, but at half time it was 2-0 Fairford.

After half time Fairford put the nail in the coffin, when a breakaway attack left Bassett short at the back, made it 3-0, which was undeserved. Daley replaced by Molloy. Bassett tried to get back into it with some good link up play between Tyrie, Swann and Mooney, who crossed for Passingham, who went agonizingly close. Bassett still gave there all in attempt to salvage some pride and a goalmouth scramble at the Fairford end left Tyrie flat on his face and Swann couldn't get the touch to finish. Farrow on for Swann. Passingham went on a run and from this Bassett got a consolation through him, with a well-driven shot into the right hand corner. Wakefield made even more saves preventing more Fairford goals and palming away a well-struck shot on goal. At full time it ended 3-1 to Fairford, but the score line did not reflect a good performance by the lads, who deserved at the least a draw, there was heart and fight in Bassett today-let us hope this performance is a turning point.
