Benefit match kicks off the season

The Town opened their campaign on Saturday in conspicuous style, for they defeated Chiseldon in a "friendly" by 4 goals to 1. The match was played in the interests of W. Ponting, who had one of his legs broken when playing for Chiseldon against Wootton Bassett Reserves last season. S. Titcombe, who was at centre forward for the first time with the senior eleven, soon gave the Town the lead, and the same player scored two more, and L.W. Chequers got one. Just before the interval H. Fisher reduced the lead. There was no scoring in the second half. The referee was Mt J.W. Webb (Swindon).

The squad named the previous evening for the game was as follows: C.R. Waite; W.G. Hunt and H. Clarke; E. Evans, A.S. Beale and W. Ogbourne; W.J. Ogbourne, L.W. Chequers, S. Titcombe, F.C.W. Drury and S.J. Titcombe. Reseves – J.G. Fry and H. Bartlett.

The Town's first eleven will open their Swindon & District League programme tomorrow against Ramsbury and the side will be: C.R. Waite; W.G. Hunt and H. Clarke; E. Evans, A.S. Beale and W. Ogbourne; S.J. Titcombe, L.W. Chequers, S. Titcombe, W.J. Ogbourne and W. Sandell.
