12 Feb 2012 - Greenmeadow Youth (A)

Well the nerves weres immense, the hands were cold, the expectations were high and the knots in the stomach were tight - and that was just the spectators!! We started the game with fantastic enthusiasm. We were in the game right from the first touch. Greenmeadow were caught out by our play and were in for a much harder game than they thought, given their last victory against us of 8-3. Greenmeadow scored the first goal of the game, but this did nothing to dampen our spirits. We fought on and quickly followed Greenmeadows lead with a run from Nat, who passed to an eager Jack Holder who aimed at goal, but it deflected only to be pushed past the goalie by Marsahll 1-1 Jack Timbrell and Jamie had to work hard in defence battling constantly to keep them at bay, and they did a great job with some great tackles. When they broke through our defence and took on target shots at our goal, Josh leapt from post to post totally unfazed. Josh made some great decisions today when he ran off his line and booted the ball straight back down the pitch.

The second half was equally as nail biting. Marshall was taken down, giving us a free kick close to the box. Adam lined the ball up and took a powerfull shot, just hitting the post. Raisham had some good touches but the strong defence stopped him in his tracks as it did with Jack H, Marshall, Adam and Nat. We battled tirelessly to get past their defence but they put up a strong wall and we just couldn't get another break. We lost concentration for a split second and Greenmeadow got lucky. 2-1 It was hard to keep our heads up when time was against us, but we did so. Working hard to the end.

Everyone played the game as they should. Passing was well done when it needed to be. Long runs were attempted when the time was right. Decision making was good. An unfortunate loss today as the team played so well together. We knew it was going to be a hard one - different pitch, bigger pitch, hard team, game of pressure, but all the lads today can be proud of themselves. It was good to hear Greenmeadow side talking about what a hard game they had today! WELL DONE.
