27 Feb 2011 - FC Calne 'B' (A)

Another disappointing result today in another important end of season match. We started quite well but gave away a silly goal from nowhere and were up against it from there. Calne had some strong players and always looked threatening, especially from corners and it was no surprise to see them go 2:0 up.

Our defending was good in places with Alex making some important clearances and Josh as strong as ever in the tackle. It was encouraging to see our defenders distributing well and both Josh and Alex set many attacks going from the back

Our midfield started slowly but came strong with George and Hadley both putting in 100% committed 2nd half performances. We could have come right back in it when we were awarded a penalty. Joe's penalty was disappointing though and we failed to capitalise. He did make up for it though early in the 2nd half with a great run and cross to Daniel C who is showing a real finisher's touch; this time volleying the ball high into the net.

Some slack defending when we were pushing up for another goal saw Calne grab a 3rd and 4th goal and the match was over. A subdued performance today but a few positives can be taken. Once again Daniel showed his versatility by playing in goal 2nd half; and it was good to see Josh, Alex and Nick trying to build from the back. Joe ran his socks off today, often running back the length of the pitch to retrieve possession. Despite not finding the net he put a lot of hard work and was named man of the match as a result.
