21 Nov 2010 - Marlborough Youth (A)

An important victory for us today. Coming off the back of some poor results we needed to bounce back and that's exactly what we did. It wasn't easy though with Marlborough taking an early lead against the run of play. We pressed well though and Joe fed Hadley near to goal. Hadley had lots to do but still managed to beat 2 defenders and equalise with a neat finish. Marlborough took the lead again with a great shot from a questionable free kick and I feared our heads would drop.

The 2nd half was a different story with the boys showing great character in getting themselves back into the game. The boys were playing some great team football and first Daniel and then George scored from corners. Our excellent record from corners continues!

Joe was looking sharp and got a deserved goal when he ran through from Hadley's quick throw. He added his 2nd with a powerful long shot which the keeper should really have done better with.

Unfortunately as we took control of the match, our teamwork fell away as the lads started playing for themselves instead of the team, as a result the spirit and camaraderie suffered a little and Marlborough took advantage by adding a 3rd. Certainly something for us to work upon.

Some good performances today from the boys. Nick who impressed in training started at left back and didn't disappoint; showing good defending and a good shot too! Hadley, George and Daniel were very strong in midfield and Joe who had a hand in all 5 goals had a really competent match. This week's man of the match was Ashley who looked strong and confident and most importantly he showed that he is learning what he is being taught. Well done Ashley.
