03 Oct 2010 - Ferndale Rodbourne 'B' (H)

A really good performance from the boys today against a tough Ferndale team. The teams looked evenly matched and it was stalemate for 15 minutes. We broke the deadlock somewhat fortunately with a snap shot from Daniel ricocheting off a defender for an own goal.

Our defence were standing firm with excellent performances from Alex and Josh who were replaced shortly after half time by Nick and Daniel C. It was our midfield though that was keeping us on top with Daniel S, George and Hadley putting in loads of effort.

Joe up front was also working hard, putting the Ferndale defence under pressure every time they had the ball. Our second goal was pure class from Joe. Beating one defender, sending another the wrong way with a lovely body swerve and stroking the ball into the far corner with a sweet finish. Great goal!

We were clearly on top at this stage but our midfield was tiring. The most encouraging thing about today's performance though, was our squad. Each of our substitutes were called upon to play a part in the match and all 3 fitted in with no problem at all. Every outfield player went off for a hard earned rest with Jake, Daniel C, and Nick slotting into their positions.

A deserved 3rd goal came just before full time when George pounced upon a loose ball in the box before prodding in past the Ferndale keeper who had a good game in goal, as did Ashley in goal for us who grew in confidence as the game went on and never looked in trouble.

Training will be more relaxed this week with no complaints at all from the coach about any element of today's match, a top quality performance from all 10 boys today, well done! It was Hadley though that took the man of the match award for the 2nd time this season with an energy packed performance in midfield. He battled for everything and showed some great distribution too. Its always nice to get on the score sheet but the boys are beginning to realise that good performances are noticed by the parents and coaches too.
