30 Jan 2011 - Hungerford Town Juniors (H)

Well just what you need on a cold winter's day is an exciting match like this one! To quote a famous commentator – this was a game of 3 halves!!! The first period was pretty even with us just about edging it but not finishing our chances well – Joe in particular was guilty of a poor first touch on a couple of occasions when clean through.

The last 10 minutes of the half was all Wootton though, with Joe breaking the deadlock with some quick footwork and a neat finish. Joe also played a big part in our 2nd when his corner was deflected in by the unfortunate defender. Our 3rd goal was the pick of the bunch though when Hadley was put through by Joe he drove the ball low and hard into the bottom corner in what has become Hadley's trademark style!

So at half time we were cruising and looking comfortable winners. As the team tired though in the 2nd half we let Hungerford right back into the match with 2 pieces of slack defending. Hungerford fancied their chances of earning an unlikely point and were pressing for an equaliser. Ashley had to go off injured and Daniel became a very busy replacement in goal.

The 4th goal simply wouldn't come despite many chances and it was always going to be a very nervy finish. Thankfully we clung on for another fine win. With injuries to Ashley and Josh early on it was all about the squad today and Nick who came on for Josh didn't disappoint, playing a tidy match at the back and making some important clearances to get the man of the match award.
