26 Sep 2010 - Shrivenham and Watchfield 'B' (H)

A great result today against a new Shrivenham B side. 9 good goals but it didn't always look so one sided. The first half was somewhat lacklustre but we showed some sign of better things to come as Daniel and Hadley in particular where controlling the midfield. Our corners again were impressive and we scored from another as Daniel Carey was on hand to finish. A long shot from Daniel Slade was the only other goal in the first half.

The second half looked to be going the same way. Joe was wasteful in front of goal and his confidence was taking a knocking. Hadley was again proving to be excellent on the wing with some superb runs and crosses, and Daniel S was bossing things in the centre of midfield. The pressure was beginning to tell and Daniel scored another with a good finish and then pressured the Shrivenham defence into conceding an own goal. Hadley got a well deserved goal with a superb low drive into the corner.

It was particularly encouraging to see that the last two training sessions focussing on shutting players down had paid off; and Joe was rewarded for his hard work up front when he chased down the defenders on numerous occasions to give himself chances to score. Some great long shots from Joe and a good near post finish gave Joe 4 goals in 10 minutes!

Alex, Nick and Josh were again solid at the back and it meant that poor Ashley in goal hardly had a touch! Daniel C and Jake fought well in midfield too.

A good all round team performance with some excellent teamwork today. Daniel S and Hadley were two stars, but Joe's quick fire 4 goals caught the eye of the opposition who awarded Joe the man of the match award. Despite looking off the pace for half the match, Joe continued to work really hard at his game and got his reward in the end. Last year we were too reliant on his goals and as a result we suffered when he wasn't scoring. Not any more though and at 5:0 up Joe was congratulating his teammates when they scored and instead of sulking because he wasn't scoring (as he did once or twice last season) he just put more effort into his game. Well done Joe, superb 4 goals!
