05 Sep 2010 - FC Calne 'B' (H)

A disappointing start to the season as we were well beaten by a strong FC Calne team. They had us under pressure from the start and soon went 2 goals up with a couple of nice strikes from outside the box. We finished the half strongly though and went in at half time looking like we could get back into the match.

The breakthrough came when a corner from Joe found Daniel in the box and he headed home. The equaliser looked on the cards; however Calne punished some weak defending and scored 3 more in quick succession.

Another good corner from Joe gave Hadley an opportunity and he fired home to bring the score to a more respectable 5:2.

Going forward we were looking good. George, Hadley and Daniel were putting some good moves together and Joe up front looked sharp without really threatening.

It was the defending throughout the team that was disappointing with too many of the boys putting in half hearted tackles when it mattered – plenty to work on in training!

There were some positives to take from the match though. Our corners were superb with Joe hitting the spot every single time, with the players in the box attacking the crosses and making sure they got something on the ball. Both of our goals resulted from well taken corners.

The defenders battled well and intercepted many times, it was really only when they were faced with one-on-ones that they struggled somewhat.

Alex started the match unsurprisingly nervously, however he soon settled in and pulled off many fine saves, growing in confidence as the game went on. The opposition manager awarded this week's man of the match to Alex who richly deserved it. Well done Alex!
