First league game without a goal

This match saw a very unusual score line as we had our first game of the season when neither side managed to score a goal.

Our visitors defended very deep and had all of their players in their final 3rd of the pitch for most of the match and as hard as we tried, we couldn't manage to break down their resolute defence.

Our most dangerous player in the opening half was Callum Bridges who went on many solo runs leaving defenders behind him and his runs resulted in several corners which came to nothing.

When we did manage to get into the Stratton penalty box it appeared that we kept getting in each others way, which is something that has started to happen in the past 3 or 4 games and this makes it very difficult for a player to get a clear shot at goal.

Our defence of Lewis and the returning from injury Ryosuke were virtual spectators in the first half, but they were passing the ball out of defence very well as they tried to drive us forward.

Half time 0-0

We were kicking down the slope in the 2nd half and it mirrored the first half, as we were again on top and Callum was again causing all sorts of problems with his driving runs.

Our opponents were competing very well and almost took the lead when a shot from their very dangerous and fast forward hit the inside of the post and was then cleared to safety.

The best 2 chances for us of the match fell to Matthew Nicholls, as he first got a touch on a long range shot from Euan which the goalie made a very good save from and then he failed to force the ball over the line from very close range.

As hard as we tried we couldn't break down the Stratton defence and had to settle for a draw.

In a match that we dominated it was very disappointing not to score and whilst we did try hard, our lack of goals from our forwards is something that we will have to work on in training as we should be scoring more goals from this area for the amount of possession we keep having.

Player of the match: Callum Bridges who was a constant threat down the left hand side throughout the match and put across some excellent corners.
