Bassett hold on for second win of the season

After last weeks first win we travelled to play Shaw with high hopes of building on that performance and looking for another good showing from our team.

The game started and from the off it looked like it was always going to be a very close match, as both teams seemed very evenly matched in all departments and that is how it transpired during the whole game.

With Connor declaring that he would like to play in goal, it meant that we could concentrate solely on our outfield players which made life a lot easier than in the previous matches although Rob was given Connor a lot of encouragement from behind his goal.

We played very well during the first half with the driving runs of Callum our main source of attacking and when he got to the by-line he delivered some really good crosses with both feet.

The best chance we had in that opening half was when the Shaw goalie was penalised for carrying the ball outside his box, from the resulting free kick Euan saw his goal bound shot deflected away for a corner.

Half-time 0-0.

In the second half we again took the game to Shaw, in the knowledge that we had Lewis, Harry and Alanah in commanding form in our defence to stop any quick breakaway's that might happen.

As the second half went on longer we started to get the ball out wide and into the space, as it had become very congested in the middle and that started to really give us some joy. It was from a good wide run from Ben that we got our winner, as his goal bound shot was deflected into the net by a Shaw defender.

The last few minutes saw Shaw respond strongly and several crosses flashed across our goal just waiting for a final touch, which fortunately for us never materialised and we held on for our second win of the season and another clean sheet.

Player of the match: Lewis Ward, whilst every player had good games they always say a good team needs to be solid at the back and although Harry and Alanah defended very well, Lewis was faultless and his passes from defence nearly always found one of our players.
