Unbeaten start to the New Year continues

Yet again we were very lucky with the weather as the pitch at Fairford was a lot drier than we expected when we got there, as we had passed field after field looking like lakes on the way to the match.

After winning the earlier match with Fairford 4-0 we emphasised to our players that this would be a totally different match and we would have to play and work very well during the game.

We again started very brightly and Callum was seeing a lot of the ball and he went on a lot of good runs, which also had good crosses into the box at the end of them.

Both teams were finding it hard to break down the oppositions defence and a lot of the game was played in the middle of the pitch as they both looked for a breakthrough.

The longer the half went on the more we began to create chances as Harrison, Callum and Lewis took control of the midfield and put several good balls into the box which we were slow to react to.

Half-Time 0-0

We kicked down the slight slope in the 2nd half and again Callum was influential as he continued to put in lots of good crosses into the box, just waiting for a final touch.

The defence of our opposition played very well and always seemed first to any loose ball that was in their box and defended superbly.

It looked like we had finally made the breakthrough when Matthew had a shot from the edge of the box that beat the keeper, but hit the post and bounced out to safety.

We finally got the ball into the net when Harrison smashed a shot from the edge of the box into the top corner, but our celebrations were short-lived, as the referee had blown the whistle for a free kick to us prior to Harrison's shot. The resulting free kick saw Lewis shoot just wide of the target.

With time running out we got our winner as Beckham just managed to force the ball over the line after another good Callum cross from the left and his 5th goal of the season.

There was just enough time for Fairford to take the kick off as the referee blew the whistle to end the match.

Player of the match: Callum Bridges who was a threat the entire match as he constantly went on many good runs and put in some lovely crosses.
