Bassett beaten by more experienced opponents in opener

Well we finally got to play our first match as we made the journey via every back road that Minety had to offer us and managed to stay in convoy for the whole journey, without losing anybody on route which was a good start to the day.

The whole squad of 13 players was taken to the match as we had agreed to play 3 periods of 15 minutes of 7 a side game, which we felt would be a good thing for all of the players at this early stage of the season.

Our opponents were bigger than us and had also played in the league last season so we knew it was going to be a tough match and with the score at 0-3 after 10 minutes it looked like it was going to be a very harsh opening match.

We managed to score our first goal after a good move which was finished superbly by Lewis Ward who found the bottom corner of the net with a very good shot, the roar from the travelling parents and the smiles on our players faces was fantastic to see. Malmesbury managed to score again just before the end of the first period of 15 minutes to make the score 1-4.

It was all change then as every outfield player came off for a well earned rest and Ryosuke replaced Beckham in goal and he made some fantastic saves as we drew the 2nd period of the game 1-1, with Beckham scoring our goal with another fine finish.

The last period of the match saw many more changes as we tried to make sure that every player had 20 minutes on the pitch and although we lost it 0-1 we did have several chances to score.

Every player tackled and fought for every ball during the match and we have no doubt that although it will be difficult playing against more experienced teams than us, we will soon see a massive improvement in their understanding of the game.

Wootton Bassett player of the match: Lewis Ward and Euan Burke. (Sorry a cop out I know but I couldn't split them).
