Best performance of the season so far

With all the rain during the week it looked like we were going to be without a match, but thankfully the rain didn't affect the top pitch at Rylands Way and we were able to get our game played.

The top pitch is a bit bigger that our usual pitch so both managers agreed to play 8 a side to allow for the extra space.

We started the match exactly where we had finished vs. Elite Soccer last week and took the match to our opponents from the start, with the midfield of George, Euan and Callum in very good form as we used the full width of the pitch at every opportunity.

The busiest player on the pitch was the Ramsbury keeper who played out of his skin with some superb saves, as he stopped us going in front and he was well supported by his team-mates who fought hard to stop the ball going into the net.

When we did manage to beat the goalie the crossbar came to his rescue as first a long range free kick from Euan and then a Lewis shot from the edge of the box following a corner both hit the top of the cross bar, as we looked to turn our possession into goals.

Whilst we did have a lot of the play in the Ramsbury half the defence of Lewis, Alanah and Harry were always alert to any breakaway attacks and also passed the ball very well out of defence.

The breakthrough finally came when Beckham scored from close range to give us the lead with a good finish and his 3rd goal of the season.

Half-time 1-0

The second half was a carbon copy of the first as we again passed the ball very well and kept attacking the Ramsbury goal and we had many corners as we tried to get the 2nd and all important goal.

We said to the team before the match that we wanted to see more of them heading the ball and they did just that in this half, which was very pleasing to see and certainly helped us to maintain possession of the ball.

There were several times when we were in good scoring positions in the box when we could and should have had an extra touch, which is something that will come with age.

We got our 2nd goal and Beckham's 4th of the season when he drove through two defenders and planted his shot into the bottom corner.

This was our best performance of the season in my opinion as the whole team played very well and passed the ball throughout the whole match. If it hadn't have been for a brilliant performance by the Ramsbury keeper we would have scored more goals.

Player of the Match: Euan Burke who was in very good form in midfield and suffered more than anybody at the hands of the Ramsbury keeper as he went close with many shots.
