First victory of the season

After all the promise the players had showed in our opening three matches we managed to secure our first victory of the season with a convincing 4-0 home win vs Fairford.

We started the first half very strongly with Harrison Russ looking in very good form as he won all of his tackles and set the tempo for the rest of the team to follow, which they all responded to.

Several chances came and went due mainly to some fine saves from the Fairford goalie before Matthew Nicholls scored our first goal with a good finish from close range.

We continued to attack with the midfield three of Harrison, George and Ryosuke prominent in everything we did, as they fought for every ball and passed it very well between them.

Our second goal was scored by Beckham Hulbert who finished off another good move with an emphatic finish from close range.

Half time 2-0.

For the second half Connor replaced Isaac in goal and right at the start of the half he made a fantastic fingertip save to a shot that was destined for the bottom corner of our goal.

The rest of the second half saw us very much in control and further goals from Isaac and Matthew gave us an emphatic first win of the season, although Fairford kept on trying for the whole of the match and were unfortunate not to score a goal.

Mal and I said at the very start of the season that we would be very pleased if we managed to win a game in our first 6 matches, but we have been pleased just how well our players have adapted to playing matches and we really feel that we have the makings of a very good team if they can continue to listen and learn which we are confident they will do.

Player of the match: Harrison Russ who gave a master class of tackling and covered every blade of the pitch.
