Another 3-2 win for the Under 8's makes it 4 wins in a row

When we started the season we always said that it wasn't all about just winning games and was more about our players developing and learning with every game.

I say that now, because it is important that we as coaches and parents must remember to encourage our players to carry on their development and not get into the win at all costs mentality that happens so often in children's football.

Again we got to see a very even match with both teams very committed in the tackles and playing football the way it should be played.

We had a few chances before our goal poacher Matthew Nicholls scored his 4th goal of the season with a shot from close range to give us the lead after 10 minutes.

The goal saw Lydiard come back at us and a longe range shot was deflected past Conor by Lewis and give them an equalizer after 15 minutes.

This was the first time we had played 8 a side and we did seem to get into each others way quite often which was to be expected, as 2 extra players do make a big difference to the space on the pitch.

Just before half time we went back in front when Harrison scored his 3rd goal in 3 games with another good run and finish.

Half time 2-1

Our half time team talk was all about telling our players to be more confident on the ball and try to pass the ball more than we did in the first half.

For the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half we did pass the ball better and our 3rd goal came from a nice passing move, which ended with Euan smashing the ball into the top corner from long range giving the keeper no chance and his 2nd goal of the season.

Unfortunately we didn't carry on with our passing and we became a little bit ragged from then on.

Lydiard gave us a fright as they scored from another long range shot with five minutes remaining.

There were no more goals and we managed another victory.

As I said at the start of this match report it is very pleasing that we have now won 4 consecutive matches and have had six wins in our last seven games, we still have a very long way to go in developing our players but they are heading along the right tracks.

Player of the Match: Ryosuke Totsuka who had a very good game in midfield and tackled very well all game.
