Score line does not reflect the performance

Well we finally got our home matches under way with the local derby vs Elite Soccer and if ever there was a score line that didn't do the game justice it would have to be this one.

We started very brightly as both sides looked to try and get the ball on the floor and play, which is what this age group should be all about in my opinion as we should be encouraging this type of football from an early age instead of the kick and rush football that some teams play.

The first half was very closely fought with both sets of defences in good form and lots of good tackling in the midfield areas and we created some good chances which was good to see. Elite started to look more dangerous as the half went on and they took the lead just before half time and led 1-0 at the break.

The second half meant we had to kick up the slope and we had several close calls to score but good goalkeeping kept us out and several shots went just wide also. We then conceded a 2nd goal when a quickly taken throw caught us napping and resulted in a well-taken goal by the Elite forward.

Our heads didn't go down and Elite scored 3 goals in the last 5 minutes which gave them a much more flattering win than the game merited, as we were caught twice from long kick outs from the Elite keeper which meant their forward had a clear run on goal.

Whilst the final result was disappointing as I didn't think we deserved to lose by 5 goals Mal and I were again pleased with everybody's effort and when we play more matches they will continue to improve and that is what we are working on.

Player of the Match: Lewis Ward who was again very good in defence and it was only when we pushed him into midfield that Elite scored their final 3 goals.
