Bassett win battle of top two

This match saw the top two teams play on a pitch that was over-sized and in a condition egg chasers would have enjoyed. The rain was coming down fairly strongly which was always going to cause keeper James Painter a torrid time in goal. At the start of the match Badgers seemed in full control of the game, with Bassett being unable to control or pass the ball. Bassett gradually began to get into the game with chances coming for either side. Badgers then had a chance falling to their striker who hit the ball cleanly but only James Painter, who managed to pull off a quality save with his feet, kept Bassett on level terms. Then Bassett were awarded a penalty in, the 23rd minute, for a push in the box that Jack Brain, on the mend from flu, would step up to take. The on fire Badgers keeper pulled off a magnificent saves. Good movement up front from Ryan Amos and hard work coming from Josh Shama helped Bassett end the half in with a good attitude of the second. Half time came and the teams were all square at 0 – 0.

Second half kicked-off and started in the same fashion as the first, with Badgers gain a lot of possession. Good defending from Harry "chopper" Hazard and Cole Embling kept the Badgers team at bay. Three quarters of the way through the match and Nick Buckle, playing a brilliant match, got on the end of a cheeky back heel from Jack Brain. His first touch took it away from the defender, his second was a thunderous strike Steven Gerrard would have been proud of, to put Bassett one up. With not a lot of time left Badgers pressed forward unsuccessfully. Ellis Embling had another good game, which could only have been bettered, by a goal. All in all a good performance by both sides, which could have gone either way, ending in the same way as the rest of the season so far. With a Bassett win.
