Resounding win to end season

Wootton Bassett concluded their league programme last Wednesday with an emphatic win over bottom placed Pinehurst. However, up to half time the story looked like being different with Pinehurst holding a 1-0 lead from a 15th minute header from Gregory. Bassett, fielding several reserves, had failed to create any clear-cut chances in the first half and Pinehurst had played some good football during the period.

Bassett must have had something added to their half time cuppa because they came out a completely different side and after some consistent pressure they drew level with a fine header from Vines after 50 minutes. The second followed 15 minutes later when Jell fired a tremendous shot from just inside the box. Thomas then joined in five minutes later when he met a lovely cross field ball from Karn to fire home. Karn then got on the scoresheet himself with two goals in the 75th and 77th minutes. The sixth goal came after 83 minutes, York beating two players on the left before cutting inside and shooting from the edge of the box, the ball going in off a Pinehurst defender. Thomas grabbed his second two minutes from time when he tapped in a York cross shot from a yard out.
