Bassett do the double

Wootton Bassett repeated their victory in the cup two weeks ago by once again defeating Old Manor at Rylands Way. As in the cup match, Bassett started positively and were in control for most of the first half. After some consistent pressure Bassett took the lead on 20 minutes. Old Manor only half cleared a corner, Harrison fired the ball back goal wards, it ricocheted off a defender and fell to Frost who slotted the ball home. Bassett created further chances, perhaps the best falling to Ackrill whose header was well tipped over by the keeper. Old Manor gained a soft equaliser five minutes before half time. A corner was taken quickly and crossed into the near post where three defenders all missed the ball, which ended up in the far corner of the net.

Old Manor opened the second half more positively and within 10 minutes had taken the lead, Ackrill got caught in two minds and only ended up in handling the ball in the box, Tutton converting the penalty. Bassett could have fallen further behind had it not been for the alert Rees who came off his line quickly to save from Rushton. To Bassett's credit they remained patient and slowly regained control, equalising, again through a sharply taken chance from Frost. The winner came 10 minutes from time when a cross from Peter York was bundled in by McKay at the far post. Damon York had a chance to wrap it up but, following a fine move from Bassett, he fired inches wide.
