A good solid performance for Wootton Bassett last week was enough to defeat Aldbourne Park and take Bassett another step nearer the league title. The Park side, fielding a number of reserves due to injury, were never as positive as their sides normally are, and it was Bassett who took early control. The scoring was opened in the 20th minute, when Vines pushed the ball through the middle to the onrushing Ian Johns who fired home. Bassett's second followed 15 minutes later when Mitchell John crept up on the far side of the defence to meet a McKay free kick and slid the ball home. Park nearly got one back in the 41st minute when, following a corner, Clark got in a powerful shot that went just over the bar.
The second half was a similar story to the first, with Bassett the livelier of the sides, though never being totally in control, and restricting Park to a couple of half chances. York nearly added to the score with a header, before, with 22 minutes of the half gone, he was more successful in scoring Bassett's third. Frost flicked on a long kick from Rees and York was left to just clip the ball wide of the keeper.
