Comfortable but uninspiring match

Wootton Bassett earned themselves a home tie in the next round of the Wilts Senior Cup with a comfortable if slightly uninspiring win against Corsham on Saturday. The first half saw Bassett well on top but failing to make the best of the time and space available to them. Too often the build-up was good but the final ball failed to find the desired player. Even so Bassett went in at the interval 2-0 up, the first goal came after 25 minutes when a cross from the right to the far post was headed back for Frost to fire somewhat fortunately home with a sliced volley.

The second half saw Corsham come somewhat more into the game but despite the extra possession they never actually troubled Rees in the Bassett goal. The Bassett defence, and in particular Peter York, playing in an unfamiliar full-back position, dealt happily with all that Corsham could muster. Gradually Bassett regained control and following a period of pressure the game was made certain with 10 minutes remaining. Walker's legs were whipped away from under him when in a good position and Bowden converted the resulting penalty. Next week Bassett look forward to entertaining Avebury in the second round of the Ghia Senior Cup.
