Wootton Bassett Blue 7 - 1 Lydiard Youth Black

A cup game which Bassett Blue were expected to win and so it turned out. In the absence of Nat this week, we gave Oliver the chance to play in his preferred position as striker and he took it well scoring a hat-trick!!

We started cautiously but soon were in the ascendancy taking control of the game and scored early on when Marshall dribbled into the box and a tackle left a loose ball which fell nicely to Jack Holder who was perfectly positioned to stroke the ball into the corner to make it 1-0.

The second goal soon followed when a scramble in the box left Oliver to get his first goal for Bassett with a neat tap in. Ollie then looked to get another with a shot from distance which just went wide.

The game was not all one sided and we nearly got caught on the break but Adam and Josh managed to tackle the forward together just in time and conceded a corner. JT and Jamie had to concentrate as were not seeing too much of the ball but when called upon they both kept control and stopped any threat.

We scored again when Jack Holder intercepted a ball with a header then a nice pass to Oliver who had a lovely touch and and turn made himself a yard and he fired a powerful drive into the bottom corner to make it 3-0.

Marshall then got onto the score sheet when a neat move on the right from Jamie to Oliver who beat his man and then drove towards the box, looked up and fed the ball across the goal to Marshall who had a tap in. 4-0. This goal was particularly pleasing as we had worked on this in the week at training and was nice to see them do it in a match so well done.

We then went to sleep for a few minutes and a long Lydiard goal kick missed out our midfield and caught the back two by surprise which left the striker with a one on one which he took with a touch then lobbed the ball over Josh and made it 4-1

We started the second half with JT up front, Oliver back in defence and we almost scored after a 3 pass move which JT fired across goal and Adam hit it wide. But Adam got his goal when he was fouled and he hit the free kick from outside the area into the top corner to make it 5-1

Jack Holder looked to add another when he beat two players with some skill but his shot was just wide. JT also tried his luck with a chance which hit the post and the ensuing scramble in the box left him on his bottom - he swung his leg at the ball but it was blocked and cleared. Jamie and Oliver then swapped with Adam and Marshall and moved into midfield, Jamie almost scored when he showed his skills with a couple of keep ups in the Lydiard goalmouth and a volley which just went wide!

We scored a sixth when Oliver won the ball and drove strongly toward goal and placed the ball into the corner for his hat trick. Another goal followed quickly after when Jamie intercepted a pass and played in Oliver on the right. His cross found JT unmarked in the area and he made no mistake this time to complete the scoring 7-1.
