A Saturday swansong to forget

Rylands Way, 13th April 2013

At least Wootton Bassett Town have one more game to come at Rylands Way, because the 3-0 the rout they received at the hands of Lydney Town was no way to say goodbye.

It was an eerie case of deja vu for Dave Turner's team as they fell to defeat by the same score against the same opponents with three matches of the season left last year. Fortunately, this loss does not have the same ramifications as a top two spot has already been secured.

On an extremely heavy pitch, the Gloucestershire side made their sloppy hosts pay. Jared Liddington scored a scrappy opener ten minutes before half time. The same player extended his team's advantage on the hour when Bassett ceded possession from their own free kick and found themselves victims of an incisive break. James Morse then added insult to injury, netting a third in the final minute.

For Bassett, it was a forgettable Rylands Way performance. And they'll certainly need to make up for it on April 23rd when the final first team fixture is played at the ground against local rivals Malmesbury Victoria.
