Unbeaten No More

Radcot Road, 15th September 2012

Radcot Road, home of Clanfield, has proven to be a happy hunting ground for Wootton Bassett Town in recent years. But Bassett's 3-1 defeat was their first loss in four years against the Robins and also spelled the end of the team's unbeaten start to their Division One West campaign.

The defeat also came less than a month after Dave Turner's side thumped Clanfield 4-1 at Rylands Way. But since then the Oxfordshire side have steadily improved, earning a draw against current leaders Brimscombe and Thrupp a week ago.

And they made a statement early on, taking the lead on twelve minutes through Jamie Butt. Bassett eventually settled and levelled shortly after the half hour mark when Lee Bowen netted his first of the season.

Appearing as though they would do enough to snatch a point, Bassett suffered a crushing blow ten minutes from time when Chris Blakeley edged the hosts ahead. Having to throw men forward in order to try and restore parity, the visitors were caught again moments later to put the game out of their reach.
