Four Star Bassett Cruise to Victory

Rylands Way, 21st August 2012

Wootton Bassett Town did their damage early on against visitors Clanfield, scoring four goals in the first half on their way to a 4-1 victory. It was Bassett's third win in four league games and sent Dave Turner's team top of the table.

Steve Yeardley continued his fine start to life back at Rylands Way, opening the scoring just four minutes in. The free scoring Mark Barnes then doubled the lead midway through the period.

It wasn't long before it was 3-0 as defender Liam Edmondson opened his account for the season in the 34th minute. The visitors struck back moments later when Steve Olphert found the net.

However, Barnes struck for the seventh time in five games four minutes before the break to stifle any hopes of a Clanfield comeback.

The foot was taken off the gas following the restart, but rarely did the visitors pose any threat.

It's now five games unbeaten for Bassett, and a perfect way to head into Friday's FA Cup clash with Hamworthy United.
