Late Show Ensures Fine Run Continues

Kilkenny Lane, 27th October 2012

Wootton Bassett Town just keep rolling. A hard-fought 3-1 victory against Carterton, earned thanks to two late Shaun Terry goals, means Dave Turner's team have now won six straight games and remain within three points of Division One West leaders Brimscombe and Thrupp having played two fewer matches.

Having to face not only battling opponents but also swirling winds, it took a sterling effort for Bassett to come away with the three points.

In a difficult opening period, the visitors took the lead on the stroke of half time when Steve Yeardley was felled in the box and Matt Bown stroked home the penalty.

Looking to push on following the restart, Bassett switched from 3-5-2 to 4-4-2 at the break. Carterton though were quickly able to equalise, albeit in fortuitous circumstances as a Shaun Carter clearance struck Liam Edmondson and into the defender's own goal.

Bassett began to control proceedings and were rewarded for their persistence six minutes from time when Terry restored his side's lead. Moments later he struck a second from distance, his ninth goal of the season, to put the result beyond doubt.
