Marching on

Rylands Way, 9th March 2013

Despite it being the business end of the season, the added pressure doesn't seem to be affecting Wootton Bassett Town as their march towards promotion to the Hellenic League Premier Division continued with a hard fought 2-0 victory against Hook Norton at Rylands Way.

Now, victory against Tytherington Rocks in a fortnight's time will be enough to confirm a top two finish for Dave Turner's team. And even if things don't go their way that afternoon, five points from the five following games will seal the deal.

Against Hook Norton, following a drab goalless first half, the introduction of veteran Shaun Terry sparked Bassett into life. He teed up debutant Steve Robertson to head home the opener, before making sure of victory late on with his fifteenth goal of the season.

Both goals were top quality finishes, Robertson providing a perfect glancing header to a teasing cross just before the hour, while Terry assuredly steered the impressive Jacob Hayden's low, driven cross into the back of the net two minutes from time.

Three seasons ago victory at the Rocks confirmed Bassett's elevation to step five football. In a couple of weeks' time, history could yet repeat itself.
