Sunday 14th March 2010 - Purton Youth 'B' (H)

After 2 heavy defeats in our last couple of games the omens did not look good when we went 3:0 down after 5 minutes. Ashley went in goal for us today and looked a bit nervous, another thrashing looked on the cards for sure!

The reaction from the boys though was incredible! Daniel playing in defence was inspirational, taking to the sweeper's roll with ease, not just playing a great game, but organising the team too. We are really going to have to get Daniel out from the goal more often as we are so much better with him in an outfield position.

Ashley soon got over his early nerves and looked almost unbeatable; he showed definite potential in goal, getting behind the ball superbly and his distribution as ever, was brilliant.

Joe didn't get too many chances but was holding the ball up well up front. He eventually scored to give us a just deserved goal for all the pressure that we put on the Purton goal. Purton added another towards the end of the game to make it 4:1 however we were certainly the better team in the 2nd half.

Recently Jake has had a difficult time for us during matches, switching positions to cover for us, playing striker one week and goalkeeper the next, he has indicated that he felt he has let the team down. I'm hoping that after today's performance he will grow with confidence! Quite simply he was outstanding today. Standing in for Josh in defence he didn't put a foot wrong all game. Tackling hard, intercepting attacks, clearing his lines, he really looked to be enjoying his self out there!

Jake's proud face after the match as his team mates came up to him one by one, patting him on the back for a great game was a reminder as to why we give up our time each week to support the boys. Excellent job Jake, keep it up lad.
