Sunday 13th September 2009 - Marlborough Town Youth (H)

The first competitive full match for the newly formed Wootton Bassett B team, and it couldn't have gone much better! The game remained at 0-0 for most of the first half, with Wootton spurning plenty of chances, many of which fell to Joe Mitchell, who looked to be having one of those games where he just wouldn't score!

We eventually took the lead after Joe put in a good corner, and with pressure coming from Ben King and Jake Ball, one of the Marlborough lads put the ball into his own net. 1-0 at half time.

Shortly after the break, Joe Mitchell went on a run down the wing and put in a lovely cross to Ben King who added Wootton's 2nd with a cool finish.

Ben and Joe's confidence grew and they began to run the Marlborough defence ragged! Ben turned provider for Joe for Wootton's 3rd and 4th. Joe was buzzing and didn't let the Marlborough defence have a moments peace, racing in to steal the ball and finish with a great strike to complete his hat trick!

Joe wasn't finished though! More of the same from Ben as he continued to provide Joe with chance after chance, Joe obliging by adding his 4th. Wootton now 6:0 to the good.

Marlborough had their chances but Daniel Slade in goal, and Josh Sheppard and Nick Mann in defence, made sure that Wootton kept a clean sheet. Ashley Mills and Jake Ball continued to mop up the Marlborough attacks before going off to give Alex Harper and Nicky Price their debuts. The new lads slotted straight in and Alex robbed a Marlborough midfielder and sent Joe on his way for Wootton's 7th.

Just before the end Ben and Joe combined once more for Joe to rifle home his 6th of the day to make it 8:0! Joe's beaming, toothless grin as he walked off the pitch the endearing memory of the day.
