Sunday 29th November 2009 - Purton Youth 'B' (A)

Wootton Bassett B were well beaten for the first time this season with a good Purton side deserving their win. Terrible weather for the boys and Purton coped much better. Purton took a 2:0 lead and looked comfortable with Wootton barely creating a chance; however Joe Mitchell brought us right back into the game when he hit a cracking 25 yard shot which beat the Purton keeper.

Purton were still creating plenty of chances though and went into half time 5:1 up.

Ashley Mills scored for the second week running after a well worked corner before Purton added a 6th to make the final score 6:2.

A number of the boys were feeling under the weather today and it showed on the pitch. Ben tried to find his usual high energy game but as soon as he started running, he was coughing and spluttering! A few others too were showing a lack or energy and all too often we heard the cries of “more urgency” from the touchline!

There were a few positives to take from the game however; Sam on his league debut showed some wonderful passing, and the corners which were practiced at the last training session certainly paid off as we attacked every single one and finally scored when Joe put in a good corner followed by a volleyed cross for Ashley to drill home for our second goal.

No really stand-out performances today, however on a day where we needed lots of energy and, yes, more urgency, Nicky Price led the way by running all over the pitch and playing with a smile despite the biting cold and rain. A few good headers and some good work at corners too means that this week the man of the match goes to Nicky Price.
