Sunday 7th February 2010 - Stratton Youth (A)

Top of the table Stratton have only lost one game all season and it wasn't hard to see why. They arrived with a big squad of 11 players, all full of confidence. Stratton took the lead with a good goal but Wootton battled well and deservedly equalised when Joe was put through. Joe's strike didn't have as much conviction as his usual efforts but was just enough to beat the Stratton keeper.

Stratton took control of the game just before half time and the game was all but won for them when they went 5:1 up. We showed great character though and carried on pressing. The pressure paid dividends when a Stratton defender put the ball into his own net and the confidence grew.

We began to put some lovely moves together with Ben, Joe and Sam showing some lovely one touch passing. Our 3rd goal was a nice move which put Ben clean through on goal. Ben showed great composure by rounding the keeper before passing to Joe who was again in the right place to finish powerfully.

Stratton were worthy winners though and showed why they have been successful throughout the season. I thought that the whole of our team played well with no standout performances, so I asked the Stratton manager to pick this week's Man of the Match, and he chose Joe, stating that Joe's corners and link-up play caught his eye.
