Sunday 27th September 2009 - Shrivenham & Watchfield (A)

A good closely fought match between two very even teams. Wootton Bassett took an early lead when Ben King was knocked to the ground in the penalty box after a good dribble. The resulting penalty was well saved by the Shrivenham keeper, but Joe Mitchell followed up well to smash the ball into the roof of the net.

Shrivenham equalised just before half time when a scramble in the Wootton penalty area saw the ball just creep over the goal line.

The 2nd half was very even, but Joe Mitchell proved to be the difference when he struck his 2nd goal to give Wootton Bassett the lead. Some sustained attacking by Shrivenham saw them come close a number of times but the Wootton defence held firm, 2-1 to Wootton.

Ben King worked tirelessly throughout the match to ensure he was back defending his own goal when Shrivenham were attacking, and helping our attacks whenever we had the ball. Fully deserved man of the match.
