Sunday 13th December 2009 - Cricklade Youth (A)

A great comeback for Wootton Bassett today, losing 1:0 and 2:1 we showed good character and went on to win easily.

Cricklade took the lead and Wootton looked rattled until Joe hit one of his special long range shots to equalise. Cricklade came again though and went 2:1. Ben equalised with another long range effort and it looked like we would be level at half time, but Joe picked the ball up just before the break and rounded a defender before slotting home to make it 3:2.

The confidence came back into the boys and soon began to play as we know they can. Ben showed some excellent wing play and was creating many chances for Joe who would have scored a lot more if it weren't for some excellent blocks from the Cricklade defenders. Ben scored a well deserved hat-trick and Joe scored 6 for the second time this season with some awesome shooting – really showing that a powerful shot is all about timing as it's hard to imagine how one so slight can hit the ball so hard!

Alex came back into the team and fitted in nicely, a good all round performance capped by a goal too.

Josh once again marshalled the defence well, but the real star of today's match was Sam who was all over the pitch; running back to defend and joining the attackers when we had the ball. Excellent passing from Sam too! When I announced that Sam was going to be Man of the Match today all the boys and parents nodded approvingly.
