Basset Under 12's gave everything in this quarter final. They contested every ball, constantly harried the opposition and created several good opportunities but unfortunately, on this occasion, they just feel short of what was required and lost a keenly contested match 3 – 1, a result that sees Fairford progress into the semis. On a very small pitch, Wootton Bassett started off by far the better side and managed to gain good possession in the Fairford half. If they could have scored at this time the result may well have been different. However they didn't and in the 5th minute Fairford did. The goal came from Fairfords first attack. Failure to clear a lobbed ball into the box caused panic and two poor headers saw the ball move ever closer to the goal. The inevitable happened when the loose ball was lashed into the net. Bassett, no strangers to coming from behind, picked themselves up and again started to impose their will on the game. The closest they came was when a through ball from Callum Walsh was chased down by Harry Fitzwilliams and his shot crashed against the bar.

After half time Bassett changed formation by sending Ben Curtis up front to partner Harry and Brett Carr moving from midfield into defence. Bassett were the side moving forward, but were always vulnerable to the counter attack, and this proved to be there achilles heal 17 minutes into the 2nd half when Fairford doubled there lead from a corner. Still Bassett pressed on and did claw themselves back into the game after Harry smashed in a penalty after Ben Curtis was brought down in the area. However, after the restart, Fairford went straight up the other end and after a goalmouth scramble forced in a 3rd and decisive goal. We couldn't have asked for more commitment from the boys, well done, and good luck to Fairford in the semi finals.
