Draw in dress rehearsal for league match next week

As the under 12's had a weekend off from the league we managed to arrange a friendly match against next Sundays league opposition, Wroughton. Terry, the manager, started the game using the squad players and what a great effort they made, forcing Wroughton onto the back foot. Bassett were camped in the opposition half for long periods and with better finishing would have been 2 or 3 in front by half time. As it was Wroughton had a couple of breakaways and although the defence played well Wroughton managed to score against the run of play. With a couple of changes in personnel Wootton Bassett kept pushing forward, with Craig Kelly having a fine long range shot saved by the excellent Wroughton keeper. What with a penalty claim turned down, it looked as if Bassett would end the half one down but a lob over the defence saw Harry Fitzwilliams run through and hit an unstoppable shot into the top left hand corner of the net from the edge of the penalty area.

After the break the same pattern was repeated with Wootton Bassett pushing forward and Wroughton trying top play on the break. On two occasions only great goalkeeping from the impressive George Barker kept the scores even. Bassett hit the cross bar with a shot from Chris Edwards and a free kick from Harry Fitzwilliams. However, the game ended in a 1 – 1 draw with all to play for next Sunday when 3 points are at stake.
